Types of Finishes Used in Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is considered as the best material among the manufacturing industries for their durable nature with high corrosive nature. Since the revolution of both aluminium and SS nameplates maintains first place for its flawless features. People choose SS nameplates and signs when there is a need for high duty service and when used in outdoors. Compared to aluminium, stainless steels have a shiny nature that will not lose its nature under various temperature changes and at the same time available in low prices.

However, there are different types of finishes for SS material to make it extra productive and glossy. Here we will discuss the types used in industry standards so that you can choose according to your need.

1. No. 1 Finish

This is used often by industry people as a final finishing product and on cold rolled metals. But this finish is little dull making the shiny nature less reflective. You can choose this as per your need of product and for indoor purpose.

2. No.4 Finish

This is used in kitchen appliances widely for their matte type of finish. Here the finish will not give gloss nature but it will increase the brightness and complexion of the steel. You can use this outdoors since it can withstand all conditions.

3. No.8 Finish

If you want a mirror finish then no.8 is the best option to choose. It can give a perfect surface with glossy nature as you expected and can be used in applications that must possess a clear image or figure (E.g. cosmetic SS products).

4. 2BA Finish

This finish will give a similar mirror-like coating as no.8 but has rough surface endings. You can choose this undoubtedly when you can’t choose any high comparable finishes for best outcomes.

5. 2D and 2B Finishes

Widely used in deep engraves and gives much brighter surface when applied. These finishes stand next to no. 1 and are used in industrial appliances.
